Conservatives and Reformists Group
Conservative MEPs are the largest British Delegation in the European Parliament. We want to see the EU reformed and more accountable to the taxpayer. That is why we created the "European Conservatives and Reformist Group". In the ECR Group, we are working with our colleagues to achieve real reform of the EU and its institutions:
- Reducing the EU budget so as to cut back EU spending plans in line with the austerity measures being applied across Member States in response to the economic crisis;
- Making Conservatives principles heard in Europe as a voice of economic good sense and a driving force for competition and growth;
- Better value for taxpayers' money, ensuring greater efficiency with less waste and less red tape holding back enterprise and prosperity:
- Repatriating powers back to the UK from Brussels in areas such as social policy;
- Ensuring through the Referendum lock that you get a vote on any future transfer of power to the EU;
- Conservative MEPs represent their regions and constituents in Europe, and not Europe in their regions. We are committed to defending and promoting British interests day in, day out in Brussels.
